One year ago there were 5 business angels in VentureClub. Now we have 43 in our base and 110 are taking closer look. To become a member of our club an investor must register, get acquainted with club rules and presentation of our scope.
We opened a new field of concern: VentureClub Advisory, where we have a lot of new ways of work with investors — now it’s more than structuring deals, but also personalized project selection, complementing with employees, investment strategy, finance management, the legal backing of a deal, etc.
First deal was structured through VentureClub in July 2014.
Now we have 480 different startups in our base: wearables, internet of things, IT, hardware, AgTech, Oil&Gas, Travel, Retail, mobile and much more. Projects always can get our help with PR, project packaging for investment and search for team members. Not long ago we helped Boookinna, project of InnaTour team, with press conference — it closed investment round in about an hour.
For the year of existence, we organized and kept more than 30 events, 10 of them in SaintPetersburg, Almaty, Samara, Vladivostok, Kaliningrad, Ekaterinburg and Kazan.
Our way of working with regions is simple: we do not open a filiation of VentureClub but establish representation offices — autonomous clubs for local business angels, who can invest in local projects.
That helps with developing businessangels community, but the generality of major local entrepreneurs don’t even know about this way of investment.
To tell about the investment scheme in more detailed manner, we open an investor schools together with RBK. These schools took place in Ekaterinburg and Samara. They are free, with preselection. Both investors and entrepreneurs can participate.
After these two schools some projects from Ekaterinburg and Samara appeared in VentureClub base and now they are closing their investment rounds.
The partnership between VentureClub and region starts with an onsite meeting. For example, in March of 2015 we held our first meeting with Kazakh business angels, and as late as May we opened a representation office in Almaty. Or representatives are Pavel Koktyshev and Zinaida Pak — founders of the club for young entrepreneurs.
Our Facebook page was started in August of 2014 and the first published photo was taken in Samara, at Samara’s business accelerator graduation. A bit later we opened the representation office there, took part at iVolga forum and in July 2015 held school for investors in “Volga Plaza” business center.
In June we started Angel Look — our own media where we talk about what is happening in the world of the venture from the club members point of view. Right now you can read an article by Konstantin Sinyushin about a meeting between representatives of a branch and investors or an article by Dmitry Falaleev about how angels community changed, or about why we came up with VentureClub =)
In spring we selected startups and conferences on two subjects: Retail Big Challenge and TravelUP! Results are open space for communication between branch representatives and investors and five completely invested projects. Summarizing the results of the conference we saw the main thing — future “big stars” of major corporations are unappealing for many investors.
In “conference + projects selection” format major companies learn about investors financial support and investors are gaining the understanding of which projects are needed in travel and retail branches.
We are still doing invest sessions — meetings between investors and startups, which shortens a time for fundraising.
